Batagor Kingsley

Batagor Kingsley Bandung

Bandung has a lot of local delicacies and culinary uniqueness. Some of them are traditional, but many are the results of local 'experiment'. One of the example that came from an experiment is Batagor. 

Batagor is actually originated from Tahu (Tofu), which is a fermentation process of soya bean, then combined with other ingredients which is a mixed of a kind of wheat flour and mackerel fish. The first invention from this tofu is actually Baso Tahu or Siomay, which is Tofu with that fish ingredients, steamed until it's cooked.

Later on, that Baso Tahu or Siomay, are fried. So it becomes a Batagor, which is acronym of Baso Tahu Goreng (Fried Baso Tahu). Surprisingly, that kind of food has become very popular in Bandung, and somehow, become on of the food icon of this city.

If you'd like to find namely the best Batagor in Bandung, normally people will come to Batagor Kingsley.  It is located in Jl. Veteran or also known as Jl. Bungsu (previous name). The place is in fact very simple, without air conditioner, and furnished with basic plastic seats. However, it is quite clean, and more importantly, the Batagor is delicious. That is why, in spite of the humble place, the food stall is always crowded with visitors. They usually come from Jakarta and want to taste the famous Batagor.

Some tourist from Jakarta also commonly take these Batagor as take-away food for a gift or souvenir to the folks back home. The price for a package of Batagor is Rp. 15.000,- with 3 pieces of Batagor.

Selasar Sunaryo Art Space

Selasar Sunaryo mainly is an art gallery. Besides having its own collection, this gallery also rent its space for other artists who wish to have a place for their exhibition. The art displayed in the gallery are visual arts, especially paintings. Sunaryo himself studied in Institute of Technology in Bandung, concentrating on sculpture. But the collection in the gallery are mainly paintings.

The gallery has other venue too. Namely Kopi Selasar, a large outdoor cafe, perfect place to unwind and enjoy excellent coffee, snacks, and lunch. Also there is Cinderamata Selasar, a shop where people can purchase an array of arts and cultural books, as well as gifts and souvenirs. Another interesting site is the Amphitheater, about 198 m2 open circular space with large screen. This Amphitheater is structured for staging performance poetry readings, screenings and other cultural events.

There are also other sites in this venue that you could explore. You can actually have a tour visiting Selasar Sunaryo. Just come there after you make an appointment, minimum of 7 days in advance of the desired tour date. If you’d like to schedule a tour, you can contact them directly.
